Transportation “mode-ivation”: There’s an app for that

With the ever-increasing number of apps out there that allow you to earn rewards for just about anything, shouldn’t there be an app that rewards you for taking public transit or riding your bike?

Turns out, there is!

Try Parking It is an app that doesn’t actually have to do with paying for parking; rather, it encourages users to leave their solo-occupant car journeys behind and earn rewards at local businesses for journeying in a sustainable way. This can include bicycling, walking, taking the train or bus, scootering, and carpooling.

The app also helps people connect with each other in order to carpool or even ride transit or bike together! This is a pretty cool feature.

Recently, I got to partner with Popken Popups to promote the TPI app on behalf of the regional council of governments. More about our commuter engagement events in the next post!

With Try Parking It, users can log their trips (the app is aimed at commuting trips, but other journeys can be logged as well). Users earn points for sustainable trips that can be redeemed for discounts and other rewards at businesses all over Dallas-Ft. Worth (if you don’t live in the DFW area, you may be able to find similar apps serving your state or region here. Please leave a comment below if you’re aware of other apps that aren’t on this list!)

By promoting sustainable journeys, Try Parking It is also promoting safety - because one more person on a bike or train is one less person in car traffic who may be tempted to text and drive. The app essentially promotes the JourneyFully mindset by allowing your transportation to do more for you - getting you from point A to B safely, healthily, thriftily, sustainably… etc!

Since the app’s launch in 2019, Try Parking It users have logged trips equating to about 4.3 million miles not driven (interestingly, this corresponds to about 4.3 million calories burned) and the prevention of approximately 1900 tons of emissions. Now that’s JourneyingFully!

Download the app and JourneyFully - for free rewards!

~And whatever mode of transportation you choose, please journey safely for yourself and others!~
